In response to the article in this week’s ‘Sutton Observer’ the Directors of North Birmingham Community Credit Union have issued this statement:

“While we are saddened to hear of the closure of Handsworth Breakthrough Credit Union, we must stress that this closure in no way impinges on the activity of North Birmingham Community Credit Union (NBCCU) an entirely separate organisation which is registered at 200 Sutton New Road, Erdington.

NBCCU continues to be a successful and growing credit union which has just celebrated 24 years of serving the people of North Birmingham and Solihull. We have over 2200 members and assets in excess of £1million, and are in no way affected by the same issues that caused the closure of Handsworth Breakthrough CU.

We will be contacting the Sutton Observer and other local media to ensure that this is made clear in their next edition”.
